Miguel Nicolas is the founder of Porto Capital. Prior to working as a financial and restructuring adviser, he worked at GFR Media Real Estate Division where he was Finance and Accounting Manager of the real estate investments and property management operations. Before that, he worked in the Business Advisory Division at Ernst & Young, LLP in the United States.
He is obtained an undergraduate degree in accounting (magna cum laude) from the University of Puerto Rico. He also received graduate degrees from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law (cum laude) and IE Business School in Spain. Miguel passed the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination in 2006, is a licensed CPA in Puerto Rico, is a member Member of the Puerto Rico Society of Certified Public Accountants [CPA Verify #5938], passed the Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor Examination in 2014, and is a founding board member of the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors Puerto Rico Chapter. He also is an investor and advisor of several local companies.
His sector focus are: B2B (Business Services, legal, accounting, engineering services), Technology & Media Companies, as well as Real Estate.
When he is not advising companies on restructuring matters or Puerto Rico Act 20 tax incentives, he spends his time jogging, surfing, kitesurfing, paddle-boarding and biking, as well as advising technology startups and emerging companies through entrepreneurship organizations, such as: Guayacan’s Venture Accelerator and Enterprize Competition, Startup Weekend, Founder’s Institute, Parallel18, among others.
